Developed NASA strategic communications plans. Implemented regular meetings among the Public Affairs, Legislative Affairs, International Relations and Education Offices, and organized regular communications among NASA’s 10 U.S. centers. Efforts resulted in greater internal cooperation and more consistent and focused external messages.
Created a strategic schedule for the agency, identifying internal milestones and events, as well as Capitol Hill and industry actions. The result was improved message management and increased awareness through outreach activities.
Produced a daily update on key messages, internal and external events, and top news stories. The document served as a quick-reference guide for NASA principals and surrogate speakers. Results included a more consistent public message and greater internal awareness of agency activities, which in turn led to increased internal coordination.
Supported media relations for Space Shuttle Discovery’s Return to Flight in 2005 and the launch of IMAX Magnificent Desolation: Walking on the Moon with Tom Hanks. Researched, wrote and edited media materials. Facilitated press conferences, interviews and media inquiry responses. Also, organized interviews for astronauts and NASA officials on the red carpet prior to the IMAX movie premier.
