Managed media relations for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), raising awareness of USAID goals, objectives and programs among various audiences. Developed and implemented strategic communications plans and media training programs. Served as a USAID spokesperson, and facilitated press conferences, interviews and media inquiry responses. Researched, wrote and edited press releases, fact sheets, articles, talking points, statements and briefing papers. Established professional relationships with media representatives and agency staff, as well as U.S. Embassy, foreign government, partner corporation and non-governmental organization officials. These actions resulted in a more strategic and well-informed approach to communications at USAID and increased media coverage for the agency.
Served as U.S. Government press lead following Cyclone Nargis in Burma in May 2008. Developed daily talking points and releases based on regular contact with the field, the National Security Council, Department of State and Department of Defense, as well as logistics and military managers and subject matter and regional experts in the central Operations Center. Also, answered media inquiries and briefed officials for interviews and press conferences. Resulted in well-coordinated and effective crisis communications that kept the public up to date on the current situation.
